Dr. Caitlin Fay
Dr. Fay was born and raised in Southern California. She spent her childhood chasing butterflies and using her first aid kit to bandage her stuffed animals. She always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, and worked as a technician in a small animal hospital through high school and during summers off from college. While in college, she worked as an animal trainer for companion and exotic animals and volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Dr. Fay graduated with her bachelors of arts in creative writing and bachelors of science in biology in 2008. She cut her teeth as a researcher when she accepted an internship to study zoo-housed giraffe, and she was able to publish her research on giraffe enrichment as first author. Upon graduation from college, Dr. Fay obtained a masters of science in evolutionary behavior working with a skunk robot she custom built for her project to study coyote learning behaviors. Her master's thesis has now been published in a scholarly journal. While involved in a research project studying African elephant behavior and social dynamics, Dr. Fay spent a month living in a tent in Etosha National Park, Namibia, to study elephant behavior in a natural habitat. The next step was veterinary school, where Dr. Fay further pursued her passion for animal behavior and zoo/wildlife medicine, and also developed interest in preventative care, feline medicine, end-of-life care, and client communication. In her free time, Dr. Fay enjoys tabletop games, cooking, curling up with a good book, long walks in nature, occasional swing dancing, and dangling things in front of her two black cats. She is a true geek in her heart, and she cannot wait to love your animals!
